The Tourism Ministry has launched a 3 million shekel ($870,000) campaign in France to try and boost the relatively slow growth of French tourism to Israel compared to other European countries. While early 2008 showed a 92% increase in tourism from Spain, 66% from Italy, and 62% from Germany, France showed only a 4% rise. As some 55% of the French Jewish community does visit Israel, the campaign is geared toward the French non-Jews to try and boost their numbers. The potential for growth in French tourism is considered to be high, and thus the Tourism Ministry considers promotional activity in France to be very important. The campaign presents Israel as a rich, cultural, and fascinating experience, with films to be screened in French cinemas. The Ministry's goal is to have 500,000 French tourists arriving by 2012. |
